KUALA LUMPUR – Today afternoon, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced a lenient restriction which will take effect from June 10 until Aug 31.
The Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) enforced on June 9, will be replaced with the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO).
Under this new phase, interstate travel will be permitted, except for areas placed under Enhanced MCO (EMCO) and notably, Muhyiddin announced that domestic tourism will be allowed and is encouraged.
The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC) Dato’ Sri Nancy Shukri welcomes and thanked the Prime Minister for allowing the domestic tourism to open its doors.
“This approach is timely for the tourism sector as it will help to rejuvenate the economy. It is because the tourism sector covers that other sub-sectors such as hotel industry, homestay, transportation, food operators, and tourist operators,” Nancy said in a statement.
In supporting the announcement made by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, the MOTAC minister urges the public to take this opportunity to boost the tourism, arts, culture, and heritage industries.
“There are ample unique tourism destination in the country for us to visit and explore. I encourage those involved in the tourism sector, continue to promote creative and innovative products,” she added.
At the same time, she also hoped the relevant industry players will be responsible and adhere to the guidelines introduced by the National Security Council and Health Ministry as a way to mitigate COVID-19.
