Bus operators ask government help to intervene in Hire Purchase moratorium

PUTRAJAYA – A group of bus operators jointly submitted a letter to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin asking to intervene and assist them in getting relief from the Hire Purchase Act 1967.

Based on a letter sighted by One Malaya, six bus operators jointly submitted the letter to the Prime Minister’s Office today morning.

In the letter, the bus operators asked the government to help them to advise the Hire Purchase companies to give a moratorium as previously done by the Finance Ministry advising the banks to look into a leeway for six months.

However, the bus operators raised concern that most of their operating vehicles come under the Hire Purchase agreement and they still had to furnish the payment on time despite of jobs affected during the Movement Control Order.

They hoped the government will look into their plea and help the bus operators who are badly affected during the COVID-19 Movement Control Order.

Most of the bus operators are registered under MOTAC.

Among those jointly signed the letter are Dataran Pintar Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd, Kiffah Travel & Tours (M) Sdn Bhd, Millenium Trans & Tours Sdn Bhd, WSF Travel & Tours  Sdn Bhd, GLX Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd and Suedostasien Reise Holidays Consultants Sdn Bhd.

At the same time, they also welcomed the government’s move to introduce an economic relief package as announced by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

When contacted, one of the bus operator Guna from GLX Tour and Travel, hoped the government will help all the bus operators out there and thanked the officials from PMO office who received the letter.
