Sandakan marine police foiled smuggling activity

SANDAKAN – A Filipino male was arrested by the Sandakan marine police for smuggling control items without a permit around the Inner Buoy Berhala Island waters approximately 3.00 pm yesterday.

Sabah’s 4th region marine commander ACP Hj Mohamad Pajeri Ali said during a routine check-up they found a boat moving in a suspicious manner.

1 officer and 11 marine personnel were engaged in the routine check-up using PSB 2 PPM vessel.

“During an inspection, we found a 48-year-old man having 150 cooking oil, 50 sugar packets, 30 box of flour, and other retail items with an estimated value of RM54,083.00.

“When asked for the permit or any supporting letter from KPDNHEP, he failed to show to the police,” he said.

ACP Pajeri said the suspect and all the confiscated items without a valid permit including the boat has been seized for further action.

The case is investigated under Section 21 of Control Items Act 1961 along with Regulations for Controlled Items.
